Matěj Číp kicks off the Mutual Inspirations Festival with a special concert performed on the cimbalom at the Embassy of the Czech Republic on September 12, at 6 pm. Knicknamed the “Cimbalom Guy,” he covers a wide musical range that includes genres from classical music and folklore to modern musical tendencies. Savor a fascinating evening of music to launch the festival.
About the Artist:
Matěj Číp performs with artistry on the cimbalom, a hammered dulcimer from Central and Eastern Europe. Hailing from a small village in the Czech Republic, he started studying cimbalom at the age of eight. After graduating from the Ostrava Conservatory, he went on to study as the first-ever cimbalom student at the university level in the US at Northern State University. He won first prize at the 2017 International Cimbalom Performing Arts Competition. In 2021, he continued his studies at the prestigious Central Conservatory in Beijing, China, facilitated by an invitation from the leading professor of the Chinese cimbalom yangqin, Liu Yuening. Furthermore, he presented the cimbalom at the Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022. Presently, he is completing his studies on the cimbalom at Berklee College of Music.
