October 23, 2024, 12:00 PM

The Embassy of the Czech Republic will host an online lecture in honor of the Year of Czech Music on the life, music, and legacy of world-famous Czech composer Leoš Janáček by Dr. David Thurmaier, the Director of Graduate Studies and Associate Professor of Music Theory at the University of Kansas-Missouri City Conservatory, on October 23, 2024, at 12 pm EST.

About David Thurmaier
David Thurmaier is Associate Professor of Music Theory and Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Missouri–Kansas City. His research focuses on the music of Charles Ives, the Beatles, and music theory pedagogy. In Spring 2018, he was a Fulbright Scholar (Research and Teaching) at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic where he researched two projects: how young Czech students learn music theory, and the impact and reception of the Beatles’ music before and after the Prague Spring in 1968. His article resulting from those studies called “‘Life Goes On’ after Occupation: Czechoslovak White Album Cover Versions after the Prague Spring, 1968–71” appears in the journal Interdisciplinary Literary Studies. He also co-hosts two music-related podcasts: “I’ve Got a Beatles Podcast,” and “Hearing the Pulitzers” (about each winner of the Pulitzer Prize in Music).
